I really loved this post, Jon, for personal reasons. Voltaire being a favored author, and that sign perhaps attributable to Voltaire, which resonates so beautifully. Perhaps, most importantly, I recall seeing that book Two Years Before the Mast on the family room bookshelf of our summer home on Cape Cod, as a young child and telling myself I would read it someday, which I did.
